"I am exorbitantly grateful for my internship experience with Okemos Legal Group. It kickstarted my legal career perfectly, I could not have asked for a better first internship. What I liked about it was I essentially did a little law school class on Wednesdays. Dr. Baranski would take Wednesdays at noon and give us a lecture on some law school class. He would assign us readings to do in the week leading up to the event. Finally, he would ask us questions on the concepts and challenge us to think critically and answer thoughtfully on what the law is and how it is applied. The best part? This is precisely what law school is like. I was one of the most prepared students for law school, because I got a sneak peel into how exactly law school classes work. They run differently than undergrad classes do. In undergrad you listen to a boring lecture and try to maybe do your readings beforehand. In the mighty law school, you do your readings beforehand, and your law professors grill people at random on what the cases were about and what the law is. It is a serious challenge, and something that we should rise to and overcome. That kind of go-getting attitude and not being afraid of the mighty challenge, but desiring to beat it is something that I learned at Okemos Legal Group. But not just that. Dr. Baranski gave me practical law experience. I know so much about drafting pleadings, researching law, and handling clients just from my time there. I also learned about corporate law and business law from one of the other attorneys there, Atty. Koehler. He and I always enjoyed chatting and I got to observe how he handled complex issues of property law disputes and corporate law. 

In short, I was benefitted a lot from Okemos Legal Group, but the thing that benefitted me the most is the relationships and the opportunity it gave me. This was my first big break, and I forever had that legal knowledge, I needed to get my first job afterwards. I’m interning at the oldest law firm in my state now thanks to the experience I gained at Okemos Legal Group. And Dr. Baranski is still a strong reference for me to this day. I am proud to say I got my first legal job at Okemos Legal Group. I hope many more young aspiring attorneys get their start here as well."

" I am a senior at the University of Michigan, majoring in Public Policy, with a concentration in Economic Policy Analysis and minors in Economics and Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (QMSS). I was accepted to Harvard and Columbia Law Schools, and will be attending the former. I feel that my internship experience was incredibly valuable. First and foremost, this is because I gained highly substantive, real-world exposure to the legal process. Beyond the extent of my firsthand exposure, I learned yet more from the legal knowledge and stories that were shared with us as interns. These experiences are not available to most undergraduates as they consider a legal education and career, and helped solidify and better inform my strong interest in the law. I also found the experience to be very fulfilling, due to the myriad opportunities to tangibly help the firm's clients, as well as to work in a highly collaborative environment and to help select and train the next batch of interns."
